The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Industrial Technology provides opportunities for students to learn the information and obtain job skills needed to pursue careers in Safety Management or as a Millwright. The Safety Management and Millwright curriculum pathways were designed to meet training and certification needs of industries across Alaska and to maximize the ability of graduates to find employment in those fields. The Associate of Applied Science degree combines hands-on technical training with comprehensive classroom instruction to deliver the education necessary to be competitive in these industries.

A professional Millwright is highly skilled in precision instrumentation, welding, blue print reading, turbines, generators, rigging, conveyor systems, safety and much more. Millwrights are experts at installing, maintaining and repairing all sizes of industrial machinery. The Millwright program at PWSC trains students in each of these areas and is based on a curriculum certified by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), a nationally recognized provider of technical training. Students can earn an Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Millwright in order to be prepared for entry-level positions, or can position themselves for career advancement by going on to earn an Associate of Applied Science.

A professional safety manager has the knowledge and skills to help companies meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements as well as internal safety standards. The Safety Management pathway to an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Technology at PWSC educates students about state and federal occupational safety and health agencies and regulations; identification, characterization and mitigation of safety concerns in a workplace; safety equipment and technologies; hazardous materials; ergonomics; incident investigations; and much more. Every workplace has safety requirements which must be met—career opportunities are endless.
