Service animals are not required to wear a vest, ID tag, or specific harness and, under the ADA, can only be a dog or a miniature horse.

In situations where it is not obviously a service animal, staff may ask only two specific questions:

(1) Is the service animal required because of a disability?

(2) What work or task has the animal been trained to perform?

Inquiry beyond these two questions is not allowed, and staff may not request any documentation for the service animal, require that the animal demonstrate its task, or inquire about the nature of the person’s disability.
