Introduces systematic analysis of human language and description of its phonological structure, grammatical structure, distribution, diversity, and historical development.

LING A201 The Structure and Meanings of Language 3 Credits

Explores the ways that languages form words, phrases, clauses, and sentences, with a particular focus on the structures of English.

LING A467 The History and Future of Global English 3 Credits

Investigates the historical development of the English language from linguistic, social, literary, and technological perspectives, including the effects of cross-linguistic processes and histories of language contact. Relates history and variation in English to local and global contexts.
