Graduate Certificate in Indigenizing Education

The Graduate Certificate in Indigenizing Education prepares educators, Indigenous (and non-Indigenous) leaders, and other professionals to design and implement culturally sustaining education systems, curricula, and pedagogies for students in K-12 schools, universities, and different education settings.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Students graduating with a Graduate Certificate in Indigenizing Education will be able to:

  • Describe the value, history, and relationship of Indigenous ways of knowing, Indigenous peoples in Alaska, and education.
  • Identify approaches and strategies to Indigenize education systems and teachings based on Indigenous cultures, languages, and views.
  • Analyze and reframe the role of tribal governance in an educational system or problem.
  • Design an age-appropriate, contextualized Indigenized curriculum/plan.
  • Compare principles and strategies found in Indigenized education systems and teaching practices.
