Medical office coders work in medical office and outpatient settings coding medical records for statistical and reimbursement purposes.
This program prepares students to work as medical coders in outpatient settings. The program is based upon the American Academy of Professional coders (AAPC) recommendations. Upon successful completion of the program, students are prepared to sit for the AAPC’s Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination. Students who successfully pass the AAPC's Certified Professional Coder (CPC) examination will be granted initial apprenticeship status.

Program Student Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this program the students will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Proficiency in the performance of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding.
- Proficiency in the performance of Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) coding.
- Proficiency in the performance of International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification diagnostic coding.
